Nothing is estimated or made up — each answer is the actual recorded average from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Average Price Data series, pulled through FRED, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis' economic database. That's the whole charm: the “no way it was that cheap” moment is a fact, not a guess.
